- Continuing education is always a good idea. Times always changing and you want someone who is up to speed on all of the codes and regulations.
- Size doesn’t matter. Some one-man-show contractors can compete with the big guys. Don’t be swayed by slick marketing materials. It really comes down to personalities and skills.
- Check out the subcontractors. A good contractor will let you know with whom he likes to work.
- Good communication with your contractor is critical. Do you understand one another?
- Who will be running the job on a day to day basis? This is critical. Who will be your point person on the scene.
- The paperwork. Request Certificates of Insurance from your contractor and Waivers of Lien when you pay your invoices.
